Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 25, 2026
This policy explains what personal information is collected when you visit shariannevis.com (the “Site”), how it is used, and the choices and rights you have. The Site is operated by Shari-Anne Vis, an artist based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada (“I”, “me”). I am responsible for the personal information described here and act as the privacy contact.
1. Laws that apply
I handle personal information in line with British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Because the Site can be viewed worldwide, I also aim to respect the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Quebec’s Law 25, and California privacy law where they apply to you.
2. What information is collected
a) When you browse the Site
The Site is delivered through Cloudflare, Inc. (hosting and content delivery network). When you load a page, Cloudflare and its network necessarily process technical data such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages requested, and the date and time. This is used to deliver the Site, keep it secure (for example blocking attacks and abusive bots) and keep it running reliably.
The Site does not use analytics, advertising, tracking pixels, or social-media widgets, and does not build profiles of visitors. Fonts and scripts are served from the Site itself, not from third-party servers.
b) Your cookie choice
The Site stores a small first-party cookie to remember your cookie preferences. See the Cookie Policy.
c) When you email me
If you contact me (for example about an artwork or a studio visit), I receive your name, email address and whatever you choose to include. I use it only to reply and to keep a record of our correspondence.
d) Newsletter sign-up
If you sign up for the newsletter, I collect your email address and the date and time you signed up, so I can send you the newsletter and keep a record that you asked for it. By entering your email address and pressing “Subscribe” you give your express consent, including under Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), to receive the newsletter, which is sent about twice a year. Signing up is optional. You can withdraw your consent and unsubscribe at any time by replying to any newsletter or emailing sharianne.vis@gmail.com, and I will remove you promptly.
e) Shop (not yet active)
The shop page is currently “coming soon” and collects no information. Before it launches, I will update this policy and explain which service providers (for example a payment processor) handle your information.
f) Site administration
The Site has a private administration area used only by me to edit content. Login attempts (time, outcome and a shortened network address) are logged for security purposes.
3. Why information is used
- to deliver, secure and maintain the Site (legitimate interests under GDPR);
- to respond to messages you send (your consent / steps at your request);
- to send you the newsletter you signed up for (your consent);
- to remember your cookie choice (strictly necessary);
- to comply with legal obligations.
I do not sell your personal information and I do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
4. Who it is shared with
- Cloudflare, Inc. — hosting, content delivery and security for the Site, and secure storage of the newsletter sign-up list.
- Your email provider and mine — when we exchange emails or when I send the newsletter (I use Gmail, provided by Google).
- Authorities — only if required by law or to protect rights and safety.
5. Transfers outside your country
Cloudflare operates a global network, so data may be processed in Canada, the United States and other countries. Where required, transfers rely on recognized safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the Data Privacy Framework certifications of the provider.
6. How long information is kept
- Technical request logs: kept by Cloudflare according to its own retention practices.
- Cookie-choice cookie: up to 6 months.
- Emails: as long as needed for the correspondence, then deleted or archived securely.
- Newsletter email addresses: until you unsubscribe or ask me to remove you.
7. Your rights
In Canada you may ask to access or correct your personal information, withdraw consent, and ask questions about how it is handled. You may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
In the EU/UK you may also request erasure, restriction, portability, and object to processing, and you may lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
In California you may request to know, correct or delete personal information. I do not sell or “share” personal information, and I will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
To exercise a right, email sharianne.vis@gmail.com. I will respond within 30 days and may need to confirm your identity first.
8. Security
The Site is served over HTTPS. The administration area is protected by a strong password, a second authentication factor, rate limiting and secure session cookies. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but I take reasonable steps to protect information.
9. Children
The Site is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in some regions), and I do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has sent me information, please contact me and I will delete it.
10. Links to other sites
The Site links to Instagram and other external sites. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which I do not control. Clicking a link takes you to that site; nothing from them is loaded on this Site.
11. Changes
I may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above shows the current version.
